Alagas Wandering
Introduction
Amidst the vast expanse of demonology and the arcane, the names of powerful entities are frequently recited and acknowledged. Four such entities are Oriens, Paimon, Ariton, and Amaymon, who stand as the heralded kings in the realms of darkness. However, accompanying these grandiose figures is the lesser-known, yet intriguing spirit: Alagas, a servitor and wandering demon.
Origins
The exact origin of Alagas remains somewhat nebulous, much like many spirits of his ilk. Yet, certain manuscripts and grimoires make reference to him, painting a vivid picture of his character. Alagas is understood to be a servitor, a subordinate spirit that serves one or more superior demons. In this case, he serves not one but four of the mighty demonic kings: Oriens, Paimon, Ariton, and Amaymon. The term "wandering demon" implies that Alagas does not have a fixed abode or territory within the infernal realms, making him unique in the demonic hierarchy. Wandering spirits often carry out specific tasks or missions for their masters, traversing different realms and dimensions.
Four Kings
Each of the four kings that Alagas serves represents a cardinal point:- Oriens is associated with the East.
- Paimon with the West.
- Ariton (or Egin) with the North.
- Amaymon with the South.
These kings are often invoked in magical practices that require mastery over the four directions or elements. Alagas, in his capacity as servitor, might be summoned alongside these kings or independently to assist in rituals that tap into the energies of the cardinal points.
Role
While the specific duties of Alagas are not exhaustively detailed in historical texts, as a servitor, his primary function would be to serve and obey the commands of the four kings. This might include conveying messages, influencing mortals, gathering information, or executing specific magical tasks. Given his wandering nature, he could be especially useful in rituals requiring movement, transition, or the bridging of different realms.
